Frequently asked questions
If your new companion has never had a medical check-up, it would be advisable to schedule a veterinary visit as soon as possible. During the consultation, a veterinarian will be able to thoroughly assess your pet’s health.
Please note that no vaccinations are given within 7 days of adoption. This is to ensure that the animal is free of worrying symptoms and that vaccination remains safe and beneficial.
A microchip is a small electronic implant installed under the animal’s skin. Each microchip has a unique identification number and, once installed, can be detected by a reader passed over the animal.
The microchip represents a permanent and effective method of identification for your pet. Unlike collars or tags, which can be lost or removed, a microchip remains in place throughout the animal’s life.
It’s important to note that the microchip does not contain a GPS tracking system.
Despite this, it remains extremely useful. Indeed, when an animal gets lost, the microchip can play an essential role in finding it quickly. Municipalities, shelters, veterinary establishments and police forces all have microchip readers. By scanning the animal, they can retrieve the microchip’s unique identification number and find the owner’s contact details in a database.
Note that in some municipalities, including Montreal, microchipping is mandatory.
